Everyone is exposed to a lot of different conditions. Our body has allowed us to experience various kinds of weather since it can adapt to the changes. The human body is also equipped with warning signals if we can’t handle it anymore. There is also appropriate clothing available if the conditions become unbearable. However, there is a small group of people who can’t stand being subjected to heat, simply because they have developed intense fear of heat.
Most of them are actually in good physical condition and do not have any disorder. Nevertheless, their fear may cause them to live a rather abnormal life than the rest.
Fear of heat, or thermophobia, may be a result of a traumatic experience such as being burned or seeing somebody subjected to intense heat. The experience may cause you to feel vulnerable about your own physical state. You believe that when you’re exposed to heat, you would suffer the way the others did.
Because of this, you would experience symptoms of phobia toward heat. A raise in temperature will cause you to sweat excessively, have fast heartbeats, and difficulty in breathing. You will start covering your body to protect yourself from touching hot objects. You may even stop going out during the day or use any device that has the tendency to become hot.
The Road to Healing
Once it has been proven that you have thermophobia, it is necessary that you get the necessary treatment.
One of these is exposure therapy. This is a way of letting you know that there’s really nothing wrong with getting enough heat in your body. Moreover, if there’s intense heat, there is a way on how you can withstand it.
Sometimes the treatment may require a form of hypnosis. This will allow you to dig deep within your subconscious and remove the fear from your minds. Medication is not even necessary since all it needs is a reordering of what the mind feels and thinks.
