If you have a child, then this article is definitely for you. We all try to understand our children, especially the fears they have and it does not stop at the fear of vaccination. There are so many children that have these fears and are leaving their parents pulling their hair out when it comes time to get them vaccinated. No matter how hard we all try to tell them it is fine, they scream at the mere thought of getting that shot. Our child has a fear of being vaccinated and when we took her to the doctor, we are sure you can guess what happened next. Having your child vaccinated against those deadly or crippling preventable diseases is extremely important.
Vaccinations are there to protect individuals from catching those infections that put your life on the line. For children, doctors recommend sticking to a schedule of immunization. In many states, unless you are exempt (because of religious beliefs or what not), your child is required to be up to date on all of the vaccinations in order to go to school.
During the early months, babies do not give much complain towards those vaccinations and they only have slight pain that is temporary. When you have a baby, your doctor will tell you having a baby vaccinated is the easy part, wait until they are older. You never know exactly what they mean, until you take an older child (4-5 years old) to get vaccinated. Yes, that is when all that “fun” begins.
Having a child vaccinated when they know everything that is going on can be a big struggle, especially when that child has a fear of vaccination. If your child is dealing with this fear, then you should help them deal with the emotions they have. Alleviate the child’s anxiety, don’t create it. When you tell the kid ahead of time that they will be getting a shot, this will only cause them stress. Simply tell them they have a doctor’s appointment, don’t mention the shot. In the end, your child will grow out of that fear in due time, as long as you give them the comfort they need.
